I sang for Michelle Obama!

Well if the title doesn’t say it all…

This was probably one of the top two wonderful opportunities I have had in my short yet roller-coasterish career here in KC. I was approached a week ago at my Wednesday Jardine’s date by some wonderful folks who were helping to put together a rally for Michelle Obama. She was in town today giving speeches to excite voters, and they wanted some jazz entertainment to help fill the time that she and others high up in the party mingled before her big address to them. I said of course, I would be honored. Although in the past I have been skeptical of anything political, as is true of the majority of folks my age, I have found myself changed by this particular candidate and, if I may say, his very well-spoken and competent wife. I never imagined I would be meeting and singing for someone as collected, poised, grounded, and thoughtful as Michelle Obama. She was a delight and very inspiring. As a musician who would never be able to attend a high profile event like this under any other circumstances I found this to be solidifying and uniting. I wish i could’ve brought everyone with me.

    Megan,
I have been trying to get a hold of you for a while now. I cant believe you sang for mrs. obama, that is awesome. I wish I would have known that, I definitely would have shown up for that one. Did you get to meet her? That is amazing. I am glad to hear you are still singing, you always had the most beautiful and seductive voice, and I am sorry that i didnt take full advantage of it. Well, you may not even remember me, but i am in awe of what you have accomplished and that you have dreams to strive for. My dreams have changed a bit, but i am still passionate. Hopefully I can hear from you one day. It has been a while since we talked. If you have the time my number is 816 718 4744. talk to you later

Megan–As I said, introverts such as us are inherently dichotomies: have to say I would not have been likely to have associated the big voiced yet sultry singer with the introspective spiritual truth seeker of our wide-ranging conversation from yesterday. Today’s operation was not as complicated as I expected it to be so had the time to listen to all of the sample of Little Jazz Bird on the website just now—which should be a great compliment to you as I am in no way a jazz aficionado. It certainly moved me enough to figure out how I might get down to KC to one of your nights at Jardine’s unless you end up scheduling something on a weekend (other than your Nashville gig) which would work out even better. All the best, Charles
